A World of Enchantment Awaits
All of my life, I have wondered about unexplained things, magic, miracles, mysterious things that seemed to defy explanation, that could only be understood through faith and imagination. I remember gazing up at the starlit sky and being completely awestruck by the pure beauty of the Universe, or playing in the daisy garden of my beautiful childhood home, searching for faeries. Magic has always been a very special part of my life, and I would like to share it with you, if you wish to listen. There are so many ways of thinking about what it really is, and in a way, those ways are all true. It is the opening of the first flower bud to shyly peek through the newly warmed earth in springtime, the gift of imagination and inspiration, which can transport us mentally anywhere we wish, anytime at all, the kiss of the muse which enables us to create works of art and poetry that bring joy and beauty to the world, the whirling of galaxies, the timeless dance of creation, the power of Nature in all Her forms, the warm embrace of a loved one, and so many other countless things. Magic is everywhere around us, if we only stop to hear it's song. It isn't necessary to be in a certain place at a certain time to have access to magic. It can be found as clearly in a high-rise skyscraper or bustling city streets as much as a sunlit meadow or the depths of space. Like electricity it has many uses, whether it is positive or negative lies completely in the hands of the one casting the spell. Just as a blade can heal (a surgeon's scalpel, for instance) or destroy, it is up to us to choose how we use this gift. Wicca, a Nature based religion which has gained much popularity in recent years, has the rule - "harming none, do as ye will". I follow that rule as closely as possible. However, if the safety of a loved one or myself were threatened, I wouldn't hesitate to use whatever means necessary to take care of the situation. One goal I work toward achieving is balance, of body, mind, and spirit. I do not believe that magic is necessarily "black" or "white", as "black" is not always bad, and "white" is not always good. The dark can be a place of especially deep, powerful magic. The blackness of space, the ocean depths, or underground, for instance, are all places where life begins. To gain awareness of our spirituality, or gain enlightenment as some beliefs say, it is often necessary to explore the dark depths of our subconcious. And sometimes, the blessings and beauty of life are taken for granted until we encounter a dark time in our lives that causes us to realize how fortunate we are for the things that we do have. Hard times can strengthen or break a person, as I have seen in my own life many times. I'm sure we all have at least a couple examples of this principle, but the point is, perspective truly is the key. Magic can help us open our eyes to a Universal perspective, rather than our own limited ways of thinking. I urge you to find the magic in your own life, if you feel compelled to explore the subject further. It is there, just waiting to be discovered.
